Practitioner, researcher, and migrant.

Born and raised in Nepal, I built my career in Tokyo, a journey that mirrors the very migration corridors I study as an academic. That lived experience is not incidental to my research. It shapes the questions I ask, the data I seek, and the policy conclusions I am willing to defend.

At Western Union Japan, I lead business development for one of the world's most important remittance corridors. I negotiate with partners, design compliance frameworks, manage a sales team, and translate complex regulatory environments into operational standards. Every day I work with the infrastructure that moves billions of dollars from migrant workers to their families in Nepal, Bangladesh, the Philippines, and beyond.

In my doctoral research, I examine the institutional conditions that determine whether remittances translate into sustainable development outcomes in migrant-sending countries. My argument is that money alone is insufficient, the quality of governance, financial systems, and social institutions in the origin country mediates everything.

These two identities, operator and scholar, are not in tension. They are mutually constitutive. The friction I observe in compliance workflows informs my understanding of institutional constraints. My academic reading of North, Acemoglu, and Catrinescu makes me a sharper strategist at the negotiating table.
